Lesson 4: Elements of Fitness

Learning Intention

The students will reflect on sport and leisure activities, and consider which elements of fitness are used in each.

Activity A

Discuss the term “fitness” and that there are 6 S’s of training that are required to create a fit body.

Ask the students to predict what these 6 S’s might be.

The resource ‘6 S’s of Training (U8L4R1)‘ is shown to the students:

  • SAFETY
  • SKILL
  • STAMINA
  • SUPPLENESS
  • STRENGTH
  • SPEED

Discuss what each of the words mean in relation to fitness.

Activity B

Students reflect on the various sport and leisure activities discussed in previous lessons. Using the worksheet “Elements of Fitness (U8L4R2)” the children consider which elements of fitness are used in various sport and leisure activities.
