The students will investigate ways to access community resources to seek help about health, safety and wellbeing.
Recap the previous lesson on media influences on our food choices. Focus the discussion on the positive media influences, such as ads that promote food that is healthy and nutritious. As a class the children brainstorm places where they might go to to access community resources to seek help about health, safety and wellbeing. Record their responses.
Discuss the the importance of applying criteria to online information to assess the credibility of the information. As a class, form a checklist (U1L11-12R1) of criteria to evaluate the credibility of a site and provide examples of ways to tell if the site is credible.
In pairs, the students are to research local health information sources and places where they access community resources to seek help about health, safety and wellbeing, and prioritise those that are reliable and trustworthy. Further instructions are available on the Local Community Health Resources worksheet (U1L11-12R2)
Using available media and resources, the students share the information about local services that they have discovered. These can be shared at a class, grade or whole school level to promote and increase awareness of local community health resources.
